SPECIAL congratulations to Consultant Gynaecologist Heather Currie for being awarded an MBE in the 2021 Queen’s Birthday Honours List for services to healthcare – a prestigious award recognising her as a leading light and driving force for women’s health and menopause care.

Dr Currie, NHS Dumfries and Galloway’s Associate Medical Director Acute, Diagnostics, Women, Children and Sexual Health, says that she is shocked and immensely proud to be a recipient of this award.

She said: “I have been incredibly privileged and lucky to work with such amazing teams both in Dumfries and Galloway and nationally, and have always had outstanding support from my family and friends, without whom none of this would have been possible.”

Heather is past Clinical Lead for Gynaecology Modernising Patients Pathways Programme for Scotland and Clinical Advisor for the Scottish Government’s Women’s Health Plan.
Outwith the day job, she is also trustee and immediate past chair of the British Menopause Society, Co-Editor of Post Reproductive Health, the journal of the British Menopause Society, as well as the author of many reviews and original articles in peer-reviewed journals and books.

Heather is also the founder and director of Menopause Matters which runs the award-winning website and publishes quarterly magazines to help women across the world.

NHS Dumfries and Galloway Medical Director Dr Kenneth Donaldson said: “This is truly fantastic news and worthy recognition of Dr Currie’s dedication and commitment to excellence.
“I have had the pleasure of working with Heather for many years now and her personable approach, patience and drive to deliver person centred care has always made her stand out.
