Smiles All Round As Dumfries Umbrella Sky To Be Repaired

A Local business man behind the creation of a street art installation of brightly coloured umbrellas in Dumfries town centre has been overjoyed with the local support after vandals damaged the struture at the weekend.
Mark Smith from Kings Coffee and Books said “We have been bowled over by the outpouring of love and appreciation for our Umbrella Sky display outside Kings Coffee and Books. We’re genuinely touched by everyone’s concern when it was vandalised on Saturday night. With your help, the police believe they know who did it and are taking action.

Local media have shown a lot of interest – first with coverage of the installation and then with the incident. It’s great that they want to feature positive stories about Dumfries – ours is one of many great initiatives in our community. With help from some of the guys from Church on Sunday night, we repaired the display and are ordering some more to replace the ones damaged in the wind, as well as the vandalism. It’ll take a lot more than that to beat us!

There are so many great folk in our town and we won’t let a small number of irresponsible people deter us in making it better. The police have been great and, through CCTV and the information provided to us by concerned citizens, they believe they have identified the culprits. I’m sure they regret it now and will hopefully have learned an important lesson for the future.

Finally, I’d like to thank everyone from the River of Life Church, which owns Kings, for their fabulous help and support. We look forward; continuing to serve our town in the High Street of Dumfries.”
