Award-winning Galloway Country Fair returns to Drumlanrig

Locals and visitors alike are being encouraged to save the date for this year’s Galloway Country Fair, as Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate announces dates for 2016.

The popular country event – which clinched ‘Best Traditional Event’ at the 2015 Scottish Event Awards – will return to Drumlanrig on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st August.

It promises the usual mix of fantastic food and drink, country sports, fabulous entertainment, rural crafts and children’s activities to ensure an ideal weekend for all the family.

Following last year’s success, the larger Food & Craft Marquee will return, filled with a variety of fresh produce including quality meats, cheese and more. The sizable Craft side will offer a wide range of handmade gifts and homeware, plus jewellery, artwork and much more.

An expanded offering of free children’s entertainment proved a huge hit last year and will also make a welcome return.

The Fair’s arena shows are guaranteed to entertain with Bob Hogg’s Lamb National racing, Dog & Duck shows and Grant Bazin’s Horse Whispering as well as ever popular favourites that include gundog displays and our scurry provided by Galloway Gundogs.

Visitors can also browse hundreds of stalls, all showcasing the best country sports, fashion, produce and retail that Scotland has to offer.

People of all ages will also get the chance to learn all about fishing, with casting clinics and demonstrations available in the Fishing Village and with a special guest appearance by three-times World Spey Casting Champion, Gordon Armstrong.

Also returning this year is clay pigeon shooting, where eagle-eyed visitors can have a go at the sport over the course of the weekend.

Anna Fergusson, Visitor Services Centre Manager at Drumlanrig Castle, said: “Now that we’re well into 2016, the preparations for this year’s Fair are well under way.

“The Food Marquee is such an important part of the weekend for a number of people, so we’ll be making sure the fresh and local offering is just as good, if not better, than last year. And people should expect plenty to keep the kids entertained with shows, entertainment and activities galore.

“We can’t wait to see lots of new faces as well as our more regular visitors returning for a fantastic weekend.”

The annual Fair takes place on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st August, from 9am-6pm.Tickets are priced at £13 for adults or £24 for a two day ticket, £5 for children aged under 16 years (valid for both days), £10 for concessions and £30 for a family pass (two adults and two children). Under-fives go free.
