GRETNA GREEN PUBLIC SPACE IMPROVEMENTS EXHIBITION WILL OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Gretna Green Public Space Improvements – Exhibition

Do you live in Gretna Green or Springfield? If so, you are invited to come along and see the plans for a range of environmental improvement works due to start soon.

The Gretna Regeneration Steering group is holding an information event in The Stormont Hall, Gretna Green between 4.00 pm and 7.00 pm on Thursday 8th January 2015 where the plans will be on display. The plans can also be viewed on our Council’s web site at www.dumgal.gov.uk/economicdevelopment

The improvement plans have been developed through in depth consultation with Gretna Regeneration Steering Group and officers from Dumfries and Galloway Council, the CX Project and specialist designers Ironside Farrer of Edinburgh. The plans are based on the Gretna Master plan which was produced following extensive community engagement.

Chair of Gretna Regeneration Steering Group, Melvyn Redgers, said, “These environmental enhancements are part of a programme of work that will take place over the next few years based on the Gretna Master plan. Gretna Green has an international profile and it is important that the local environment reflects this.”

The works are being funded by Dumfries and Galloway Council. Councillor Craig Peacock, Vice Chair of the Economy, Environment and Infrastructure Committee, said, “I am very pleased at the way the local community, our Council and the CX Project have worked together to develop these plans which were approved by the Committee in July 2014.”

Mr Peacock added, “The works are costing £250,000 and this is being funded through the Council’s Capital Programme which is specifically for this type of scheme. The first phase of the works will start very soon.”

The Gretna Regeneration Steering Group is responsible for overseeing the delivery of projects from the Gretna Master plan which was originally published in 2009. The group is made up of elected representatives from Dumfries and Galloway Council, Gretna Green and Springfield Community Council, Gretna and Rigg Community Council as well as business representatives.
The environmental enhancements include the creation of four Gateway features, the re-development of the park at Headless Cross, a new seating area at Westgill Road, extensive tree planting and other improvements.
