Police Issue Lottery Scam Warning As Local Woman Gets Caught Out

POLICE have ssued a warning to people across Dumfries and Galloway as local woman fell victim to a lottery scam this weekend. The lady was contacted and advised she had won over £130,000 on the Canadian Lottery.

A Police Spokesperson Stated “All she had to do to claim her winnings was send £530 and then the transfer would be made. This is a long running scam – Never respond to any such communication. If you haven’t entered a lottery then you can’t have won it.
We don’t know of any official lottery operators who ask for fees to collect winnings. Any request for a fee payment is a good indication that someone is trying to defraud you. If you are ever in doubt please call the police on 101.”
