M6 Drug Smuggler Caught With £124k Of Cocaine Gets Time In Jail

A man has been sentenced today (Feb 6) for possession with intent to supply a Class A drug namely Cocaine and possession of a Class B drug Cannabis after being stopped by police on the M6 Just over the border from Dumfries and Galloway near Carlisle.

Allan Ambrose, 49, from Melling Road, Liverpool appeared at Carlisle Crown Court today and was sentenced to three years and two months.

Ambrose was stopped on the M6 northbound between J44 and J45 on the 16th October 2019 following concerns by officers in an unmarked vehicle.

Ambrose handed officers a cigarette packet containing four joints of cannabis which were subsequently seized.

Following this, officers carried out a search of this vehicle of which Ambrose was the sole occupant of and found a package heavily wrapped under the front passenger seat. The package was consistent with how controlled substances are packaged for transportation, this was seized and tested positive for Cocaine weighed in at 1.24kg worth between £50,000 to £124,000.

Detective Constable Catherine McDonnell said,

“This was a great result taking 1.24kg of cocaine of the street.
“We will take action against those who seek to profit from the illegal supply of drugs and we continue to encourage the public to report any suspicions they have regarding the supply of drugs.”
