A 44 year old male is currently in The Western General Hospital in Edinburgh following an alleged assault outside The White Hart Hotel, Brewery Street, Dumfries about 0050 hours on 10 July 2016.
The male victim suffered serious head injuries and his condition is described as serious but stable.
A second male aged 23, was also assaulted and required hospital treatment for serious facial injuries which were sustained at the same location.
Police Scotland are appealing for anyone who was in the area and who may have witnessed either assault take place to contact them on 101.
