MOTORISTS WARNED TO MOVE VEHICLES AS FLOOD WARNING ISSUED FOR WHITESANDS

Police Scotland is warning motorists parked on the Whitesands in Dumfries to attend and remove vehicles from the car parks in that area due to a flood warning being received. The Whitesands are expected to flood at around 1445 hours today (Tuesday 23 January 2018).

Inspector Hugh McCombe said “We have closed the west car park at present and would ask motorists to attend and remove vehicles as soon as possible. Vehicles still in situ after 1415 hours may be removed by a local garage. Motorists are also asked to avoid the area where possible until further notice.”

 

The SEPA Warning Stated –

A FLOOD WARNING has been issued for Whitesands.

Continued snowmelt in the Nith catchment is causing river levels to rise steadily and will begin to flood the Whitesands at around 16:30 this afternoon (Tuesday 23rd January). It’s not clear yet how high the peak will be, but an updated message will be sent in a few hours to clarify this.
