MAN CAUGHT IN PENRITH AFTER POLICE CHASE IN DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY

Police Scotland report that around 0940 hours today (Thursday 2 November 2017) a red coloured Audi motor car was the subject of a pursuit by police vehicles after it failed to stop when required by police officers on the southbound carriageway of the A74(M), south of Junction 17 Lockerbie.

The vehicle was pursued south into Cumbria and onto the M6 motorway. The vehicle then left the M6 motorway at Penrith, and drove into the town centre where it stopped, after crashing into the HSBC bank in Market Square.
One man, the sole occupant of the vehicle was arrested and was thereafter escorted back to V Division, Dumfries and Galloway. He received a slight injury which did not require medical attention.

Inspector Campbell Moffat of the Roads Policing Unit for the Dumfries and Galloway Division said “police vehicles from Police Scotland were involved in this pursuit which concluded in the centre of the town in Penrith. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding this incident are currently ongoing.”
