POLICE PROBE FIRE-RAISING VANDALISM AT GRETNA

Police Scotland is investigating a case of vandalism and fireraising in the area of the underpass under the A75 slip road at Gretna. At around 2245 hours on Monday 14 March 2016 a grass fire was discovered on the banking of the A75 slip road. The Fire and Rescue Service were alerted by a passing motorist. On further examination of the area, fresh graffiti was discovered on the walls of the underpass. Damage was also discovered to the grass by the fire, which had burned itself out.

Constable Anthony Pallent at Gretna said “we want to trace three male youths who were seen running from the scene when the fire was discovered. We ask that anyone who may have been in the area and who saw anything that might help trace these youths get in touch with us at Gretna on the 101 number. Likewise we ask that parents who may have had children return home on Monday night smelling of smoke to call us if they suspect that their child may have been involved. Setting fire to a grass banking near a busy road is a reckless act and the consequences could have been catastrophic if it has affected the visibility on the roadway”
