Police Investigate Spate Of Local Car Fires

Police Scotland is seeking witnesses after a two car’s have been set on fire in Lockerbie and thornhill this weekend. In the first incident witness are appealed for in relation to a  fire at a house at Springwells, Johnstonebridge, Lockerbie, at around 2030 hours on Saturday 21 January 2017. The car, a silver coloured Citroen C4 car was extensively damaged by the fire, which was extinguished by the Fire and Rescue Service.

Constable Stephen Glendinning at Lockerbie said “the owner of the car was away from home when the fire started. On returning home he discovered his car well ablaze. Thankfully no-one was injured as a result of this fire, which we are presently treating as suspicious. We are carrying out door to door enquiries in the area and would like to hear from anyone who may have been in the area of Springwells on Saturday evening is they saw anything suspicious. Police at Lockerbie can be contacted through 101.”

In the second incident Police officers at Thornhill are seeking witnesses to a suspicious fire which left a silver coloured Audi A3 car seriously damaged after it went on fire. The car was parked in a lay-by on the A76 road near to Enterkinfoot, Thornhill. The fire was discovered at around 2100 hours on Friday 20 January 2017. The car had been parked, broken down, in the lay-by for a couple of weeks prior to the fire.

Constable Scott Graham at Thornhill said “many local people passing this lay-by will have seen this car parked there in the past few weeks. We are treating this fire as suspicious and are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity around the car over this period, and in particular on Friday evening.
