Police Probe Damage That Caused Gas Box To Leak – Kirkcudbright

POLICE OFFICERS in Kirkcudbright are investigating after a gas box was damaged in the town. The box, located at the end of Baird Way was discovered damaged around 6:45pm on Thursday 19th July 2018.

As a result of the damage, a small amount of gas was able to escape into the street and engineers were required to turn the gas off to 36 homes in Baird way and surrounding streets.

Constable Nicola Wallace, based in Castle Douglas said, “This was a reckless act, the consequences of which could have been severe. The person responsible has damaged the gas valves within the box to such an extent that a small amount of gas has been able to escape into the air in a residential area.
The damage also means all the pipes, appliances and boilers within affected properties will require to be checked by gas engineers to ensure they are safe to use. This will cost several thousand pounds to carry out.
I would be keen to hear from anyone that may have seen anyone at the gas box, which is green and located at the end of Baird Way, in the days prior to the damage being discovered.
Anyone with any information in relation to this incident can pass it to Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident 3814 of 18th July 2018.
