Palmerston Cafe Damaged In Suspicious Fire – Dumfries

POLICE Officers in Dumfries are investigating two suspicious fires which happened in the early hours of this morning, Thursday 10 January 2019.

Around 4.05am the two overhead canopies at the Palmerston Café in Glasgow Street were reported to be on fire. The fire was extinguished by the Fire and Rescue Service.

At around 4.20am a further report was received regarding a fire at the Polish Delicatessen shop in St Michaels Street. Again the canopy had been set on fire and again the fire was extinguished by the Fire and Rescue Service.

Constable David Steele at Dumfries said “Although enquiries are at an early stage it does seem that these crimes may well be linked and we are carrying out door to door enquiries and reviewing CCTV footage at this time. We want to trace the following described man who was seen at the Palmerston Café around the time the fire started. He is described as been male, wearing a baseball cap with a logo on it, had over ear earphones. carrying a ruck-sack and was wearing dark trousers, a long sleeved top and trainers”
