Road Traffic Collisions – Witnesses Sought

Police Scotland officers are appealing for witnesses to the following road traffic collisions, where it appears that the drivers of vehicles involved have failed to stop and furnish full details as required in law at the time.

In the first collision, which happened back on Friday 23 December 2016 in Drumlanrig Street in Thornhill, an 86 year old man was struck by a car and knocked over. The collision happed just outside the premises of Hillhouse and Hunter at around 1150 hours that day when the man was crossing the road. He was struck by a gold coloured VW Golf which was being driven by a woman who did stop at the time, however no details appear to have been left. The man was attended to by a number of people and was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary where he was found to have a broken collar bone and ribs. He remained in hospital overnight and was discharged the next day. Constable Lee Smith at Thornhill said “we want to hear from anyone who may have attended to help the man who was struck and also from the driver of the gold coloured VW Golf as well if she wants to come forward. Callers can contact us at Thornhill on the 101 number.”

About 1630 hours on Tuesday 17 January 2017 a 51 year old woman was sitting in stationary traffic in Lockerbie Road in Dumfries in her silver coloured Vauxhall Antara car when she was struck from behind by another vehicle. Because of the volume of traffic at the time the woman drove on and then pulled into the car park at Tarff Town and Country on the Lockerbie Road, expecting the driver of the offending car to do likewise. Unfortunately the driver of the other car drove on. The woman was not injured however damage was caused to the rear of her car as a result. Constable Tammy Smith at Dumfries said “Clearly the driver of the offending vehicle must have been aware of the collision and as such should have complied with the law, stopped and exchanged details with the woman. We are appealing for witnesses to this collision to come forward, and also to the driver of the offending vehicle to come forward to clear the matter up.”

About 2100 hours on Tuesday 17 January 2017 a 31 year old man, accompanied by his 15 year old son, was walking his dog on the A76 road near to the Cuckoo Bridge in Dumfries. Whilst attempting to cross the road at the pelican crossing, he and his dog were struck by what appears to have been a silver coloured car, perhaps a Vauxhall Astra style which came from the direction of the retail estate. The man was not injured in this collision however the dog received a cut lip and was later treated by a vet. Constable Adam Watret at Dumfries said “Whilst the driver of the silver car stopped momentarily, the driver did not alight from his vehicle nor converse in any way with the pedestrians. We would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this incident, and in particular to a female driver of a yellow coloured Citroen Cactus car who stopped to offer assistance. We would also like to hear from the driver of the silver coloured car as well in order to clear this matter up.”
