SEARCH FOR MISSING DUMFRIES MAN CONTINUES

Police Scotland Inspector Stuart Wilson at Dumfries says that “the search continues today for missing 57 year old Charles Mellor from College Street in the town.  Mr Mellor went missing after going fishing on the River Nith near to the old Carnation factory in the town on Friday evening, 8 July 2016.  After failing to return home he was later reported missing by his family.

“Searches over the weekend included areas in and around the River Nith at the old Carnation Factory and downstream to the Nith Estuary.  A wider search has also taken place across the paths and adjacent fields, woodland and the golf course. Those involved in the search operation included Police Scotland, the Fire and Rescue Service, Nith Inshore Rescue, HM Coastguard and members of the Moffat Mountain Rescue Team.  The Police Scotland helicopter has also been involved in the search. Today members of the Police Scotland Underwater Unit are assisting in the search in and around the area where Mr Mellor was last seen.

“Mr Mellor is described as being a white man, around 5’10, medium build and with shaved black hair. He was last seen wearing a maroon hooded top and black Adidas jogging bottoms.  Fishing equipment which belongs to him has been found at the side of the river where he was fishing and where he was last seen.
