Stranraer BID Steering Group organised a Weed Blitz last Sunday. Around 30 people were expected and over 100 turned out to help the Stranraer BID team. The clean up was all organised through social media and word of mouth.
Young and old, business owners and residents came together on Sunday to weed the town!
All in all 140 black bin bags of weeds were collected.
Volunteers were kept fed and watered by Central Cafe and donuts from Cafe Pizzeria. South West Plant supplied gloves and hi-viz vests.
Romano Petrucci, Chairman of the BID Steering Group and the driving force behind the weed blitz commented at the end of the day. “What a day. I have just driven round every street that was weeded today. It’s just utterly incredible the difference. The Town Centre looks fantastic. I just cannot get my head round the turnout and the back breaking work everyone did. Not a soul complained that my hour became three and a half hours. All in all we collected over 140 black bags of weeds. People from every single walk of life. I cannot tell you how proud I was of everything and everyone today but suffice to say this Town is looking that little bit better as a result of you all today.Thank you.”
The team have more weeds in their sights, calling for another Weed Blitz this Sunday when the group will clear up Glen Street, Princess Street and the entire of Hanover Street car park. Anyone wishing to volunteer should meet at the Central Cafe, Charlotte Street at 10am Sunday 28th. Please bring along gardening gloves, hoes, trowels if you have them.
