Region’s 2014 Annual Arts Convention will be held in Stranraer
A new working name and a fresh look have been unveiled for the charity which champions Dumfries and Galloway’s arts and culture.
The Dumfries and Galloway Chamber of the Arts will now be known as DG Unlimited in its day-to-day work to champion the region’s artists, craft makers and others from the creative industries.
At the same time it has announced that its Annual Arts Convention will take place in Stranraer on Wednesday, 5th November, with Creative Scotland CEO Janet Archer as one of the keynote speakers.
DG Unlimited is also inviting nominations from its growing membership for three new trustees to sit on its board.
Cathy Agnew, Chair of DG Unlimited, said: “Our aim is to reach out to everyone in the region, across Scotland and far beyond to let them know about all that’s going on in the arts and culture in D&G. The new day-to-day name and branding will help us as we work to provide a showcase for all the incredible talent and creativity that exists here.”
Since it was set up last November DGU has seen its membership grow rapidly and includes not just artists but writers, craft makers, managers, event organisers, designers, musicians, performers and anyone with an interest in the arts.
The DG Unlimited name has been chosen to be bright, positive and memorable and to reflect the broad range of members. It is also in tune with the organisation’s ambitions, which include promoting D&G on the national and international stage and attracting more cultural visitors to the region.
The Annual Arts Convention, at the Ryan Centre, will provide a chance for DGU members and anyone else with a strong interest in the creative sector to look back at what has been achieved in the past year and to prepare for 2015.
Cathy said: “The convention is an absolute must for anyone who is interested in how we move the creative sector forward in Dumfries and Galloway. It’s a superb chance to hear from Janet Archer about what’s happening at a Scottish level as well as from key figures from D&G about all that’s going on within the region. We are planning an event that will not just be hugely informative, but colourful and fun as well.”
With DGU developing fast it also hopes to attract additional Board of Trustee members to help carry out its work.
For the purposes of charity registration and some formal business activities the organisation will continue to be called the Dumfries and Galloway Chamber of the Arts.
